Hi Everyone:

How was your Mother’s Day?

Did you hear from all of your children?

Did you call your mother?

Better yet, did you pray for mom?

Whether she’s here or in heaven Mother’s day prayers reach all.

I saw an interview with Aretha Franklin on Instagram that resonated with me.  Aretha was asked what the most challenging thing for her was.  She said it was “trying to figure out what to cook for dinner.” Can you relate? Deciding what to cook can be a booger. So can figuring out what to blog about. That, in and of itself, can be the most challenging thing about blogging: what the heck to write about.

Amidst recent blogger's block, a friend suggested I write about my late mother, Diane Dickinson Corkill.  Though I didn’t pounce on the idea the topic grew on me especially given we’re still in Mother’s day month.

So, here it goes...

If I was asked to describe my mom in one word it would be: unique.  Idiosyncratic being a close second.

  • From a distance I would describe mom as sophisticated, well-mannered, cautious with a sprinkle of intimidation.

  • But if you got inside her inner circle she was out-spoken, quick-witted, funny and sometimes off-the-wall (as she'd put it)...the idiosyncratic side. And,

  • If you were intimately aware of her inner workings, say, like me and a couple others, you knew she had a highly sensitive/fragile side. One that the out-spoken, opinionated side carefully concealed thus rendering it unbeknownst to most.

Mom was a long-stem crystal glass at her core.  But her wit, humor and uniqueness live on for all.

I miss her.

A lot of people miss her, not just me.

She often had a camera in her hand. Mom was before her time when it came to documenting experiences. I hope you enjoy a few of her many, many photos below.

Having a friend suggest a blog about mom was a great idea...now I need a suggestion for dinner?  I agree with Aretha. Deciding a dinner menu can be challening, even more so than blog topics for y'all.

Happy Mother’s Day, Mom.

Thank you for reading!

Love, Shelley
